Global military spending hits record $2.9 trillion in 2025

Global military spending surged to a record $2.9 trillion in 2025, marking the 11th consecutive year of growth, according to a new SIPRI report. The United States remains the top spender at $954 billion, followed by China at $336 billion and Russia at $190 billion. Europe saw the largest regional increase at 14%, while Asia-Pacific spending rose 8.5%. The top three spenders account for over half of global military expenditure.
