Iran expert says 40-day war caused 2M unemployed

A government expert in Iran has publicly estimated the severe economic damage caused by the recent 40-day war. Sina Sheikhi, director of the 'Social Capital Group' at the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, states the conflict has resulted in approximately 2 million people becoming unemployed. He contrasted this with the 12-day war in June 2025, which he said caused 500,000 job losses, indicating the more recent conflict's impact is significantly greater in terms of both unemployment and physical destruction. Independent observers reportedly believe the actual unemployment figure from the war may be even higher than the official 2 million estimate.
