Lebanese turtle advocate dies after Israeli attack

Mona Khalil, a 76-year-old Lebanese environmental activist who spent over 25 years protecting sea turtle nesting sites on southern Lebanon's coast, has died from injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike in early June. She founded the 'Orange House Project' environmental center near Tyre and worked with volunteers to protect beaches where loggerhead and green sea turtles lay eggs. The strike hit her home, and she was taken to a Beirut hospital in critical condition, passing away on Friday. Her assistant suffered burns but survived.
