Bolivia state of emergency extended amid protests

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz declared a state of emergency on June 10, granting the military expanded powers to clear road blockades and restore order after 50 days of nationwide anti-government protests that have paralyzed the economy. The protests, which began in late April, have shut down major highways and disrupted supply chains, leading to shortages of fuel and food. The state of emergency allows for curfews and detention without warrant in an effort to end the crisis.
