WHO: Ebola outbreak 'evolving fast' in DR Congo

The World Health Organization warned Friday that the deadly Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is 'evolving fast' and continues to spread despite accelerating public health measures. The outbreak, which began in mid-May, is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus for which no vaccine or specific treatment currently exists. As of the latest reports, the WHO has confirmed 896 cases and 561 deaths, with concerns mounting over infections among healthcare workers and the challenges of operating in active conflict zones.
