Moldova GDP growth slows to 0.4% in Q1 2026

Moldova's GDP increased by only 0.4% year-on-year to MDL 38.17 billion (€3.86 billion) in the first quarter of 2026, according to the statistics bureau BNS. The growth rate slowed sharply from 3.6% y/y in Q4 2025 and 5.2% y/y in Q3 2025, as domestic demand—particularly gross fixed capital formation—lost momentum. The European Commission's Spring Forecast projects Moldova's full-year 2026 growth at 2%, down from 2.4% in 2025, citing headwinds from the Middle East conflict and spillovers from Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
