Iraq to integrate Iran-backed militias individually

Iraq is reportedly planning to integrate members of Iran-backed armed groups into state institutions on an individual basis rather than as organized units. Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, at 40 the youngest in Iraq's history, has sought to meet US demands to control these militias, according to Lahib Higel of the International Crisis Group. Analysts warn that al-Zaidi faces a delicate balancing act in putting weapons under state control while managing relations with both Washington and Tehran.
