Mikhail Verbitsky, a mathematician detained at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport on June 12, has been released from the detention center, his lawyer Vache Simonyan told Radio Azatutyun. Verbitsky was released because Russian security forces did not send a request to the Armenian Prosecutor's Office regarding his detention. However, he remains unable to leave Armenia as his name is on Russia's wanted list, which is automatically recorded in Armenia's border control system. Verbitsky is accused in Russia of 'justifying terrorism' for statements questioning the investigation methods of the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack. He hopes to continue working remotely at Brazil's National Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics and collaborate with Armenian scientists.
