Snowstorm strands 300 vehicles in Alberta

A sudden and severe spring snowstorm in northern Alberta has stranded hundreds of motorists. Highway 63 south of Fort McMurray was completely shut down, trapping over 300 vehicles for more than 15 hours overnight in freezing temperatures. Emergency crews, RCMP, and local volunteers delivered food and fuel to the stranded drivers, while nearly 60cm of snow and 4-foot drifts created dangerous whiteout conditions. The extreme weather event caught even experienced Canadians off-guard, with vehicles backed up over 100km to Wandering River.
