India may exit Chabahar port over US sanctions

India is reportedly planning to sell its shares in Iran's strategic Chabahar port following the expiration of a US sanctions exemption. According to the Business Standard, New Delhi is also weighing a temporary arrangement where an Iranian operator would manage the port during the sanctions period, with operational control potentially returning to India later. This move reflects the significant pressure exerted by US secondary sanctions on international partners of Iran. The Chabahar port is a key trade and connectivity project for India, providing a route to Afghanistan and Central Asia bypassing Pakistan.
