EU to provide €16.7B budget support to Ukraine

The European Union has announced it will allocate €16.7 billion in budget support to Ukraine in 2026. Half of the amount, €8.35 billion, will come through the Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) instrument, while the other €8.35 billion will be provided via the Ukraine Facility program, which requires Kyiv to implement reforms to receive funds. The announcement details the structure of a previously approved €90 billion loan component, which does not require Ukraine to repay the assistance unless it receives reparations from Russia; otherwise, repayment will be covered by 24 EU member states.
