UNIFIL replaces IDF-destroyed crucifix

Italian UNIFIL peacekeepers have replaced a statue of Jesus Christ in southern Lebanon that was vandalized by Israeli soldiers. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed the action on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The replacement follows a previous incident where a crucifix was destroyed by an IDF soldier, which the military had claimed to replace, but that replacement was later reported stolen.
