India to build largest underground oil storage

India has announced plans to build its largest underground crude oil storage facility at Chandikhol in Odisha. The strategic petroleum reserve project will have a capacity of 4 million metric tonnes (MMT) and involves an investment of ₹8,743 crore. This expansion of India's strategic petroleum reserves aims to enhance the country's energy security and buffer against potential supply disruptions in global oil markets.
