Duma considers Lantratova for human rights ombudsman

The Russian State Duma is considering Yana Lantratova for the post of Commissioner for Human Rights, with United Russia already backing her. A plenary vote is tentatively scheduled for May 14. Lantratova, 37, has a background in youth volunteer projects, the Presidential Council for Human Rights, the Presidential Administration, and the Ministry of Economic Development, and has headed the Duma's civil society committee since 2025. Her nomination is seen as a potential shift for the ombudsman institution toward a more active role.
