Russian pensioner jailed for military ammo find

A 71-year-old pensioner from Russia's Belgorod region has been convicted for illegally possessing explosives and ammunition he found in a forest. Alexander Gerasimov discovered bags containing 706 grams of smokeless artillery powder and 33 cartridges near a military trench in November 2025 and took them home, storing them in a living room nightstand. Police later searched his home and seized the items; Gerasimov pleaded guilty in court but refused to testify. The Novooskolsky District Court sentenced him to seven months in prison and a 5,000-ruble fine.
