Syria-SDF negotiations stall over base handover

Negotiations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continue to face difficulties, with disagreements over the handover of bases and institutions disrupting the integration process. On 19 April, Ministry of Interior forces took control of prisons in Hasakah and Qamishli but could only enter the courthouse in Hasakah. In Qamishli, the YPG/SDF refuses to hand over the courthouse, arguing that the handover must be comprehensive, covering the entire judicial system at once. Meanwhile, protests by families of detainees and missing persons persist, demanding information on relatives who have been captured or gone missing. Additionally, controversy surrounds the granting of Syrian citizenship to Kurds, who are registered as Arab, concealing their identity to the detriment of the Arab majority.
