Tribal-Kurdish tensions flare in Qamishli

Tensions between Kurdish security forces and tribal groups escalated in northern Syria's Qamishli region on April 18. Tribal forces staged a show of force by advancing toward the city outskirts after Asayish and YPG/SDF defenses were dismantled. Tribal leader Hussein al-Hassou then shot at a Rojava flag in southern Qamishli, sparking Kurdish protests demanding his arrest and city defense. Hours later, Asayish security forces coordinated with the Ministry of Interior to arrest al-Hassou and redeploy to their original positions south of the city, while Kurdish flags were raised throughout Qamishli in response to the incident.
