Canada launches mandatory food warning labels

Canada has launched new mandatory front-of-package food warning labels to combat unhealthy eating habits. The labels feature a magnifying glass icon that must appear on products exceeding 15% of the Daily Value for saturated fat, sugar, or sodium, with plain fruits exempted. Health claims will be banned on foods displaying these warning symbols, and vitamin D fortification requirements have been increased for milk and margarine. The 2019 Food Guide remains the current reference despite calls for a comprehensive update.
