Countries ask US to extend Russian oil purchase permit

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has stated that representatives from more than ten of the world's most vulnerable and energy-poor countries have formally requested the United States to extend a temporary decision to lift sanctions on Russian oil purchases. The requests were made by finance ministers during the IMF and World Bank meetings held last week. Bessent emphasized the request was for a 30-day extension of the relief measure.
