France to create third army division for homeland defense

France's Chief of Staff General Pierre Schill confirmed the creation of a third army division focused on territorial defense. The new division's mission will be to defend the country's vital interests and conduct operational defense on national territory in a crisis or war scenario, freeing other forces for deployment abroad. France aims to recruit 80,000 reservists by 2030 and 105,000 by 2035, with half serving in the army, and is also forming a separate territorial defense brigade.
