Russia withdraws citizenship-stripping bill

The Russian State Duma has withdrawn a legislative bill that proposed stripping citizenship from individuals who fail to register for military service. The initiative, submitted to the lower house of parliament in July 2025, would have allowed military commissariats to send information to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to terminate the citizenship of those who recently acquired it. If the citizen reported to the military commissariat within 30 days, the decision would be cancelled. The withdrawal marks a reversal of the proposed policy.
