Macron to renew French-Greek defense pact

French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Greece on April 24-25, 2026, to renew a bilateral defense agreement for another five years with provisions for automatic extensions. The pact, originally signed in 2021, includes mutual defense commitments and previously led to Greece purchasing three French frigates and around 24 Dassault Rafale aircraft. During the visit, Macron and Greek officials are also expected to discuss maritime security and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The renewal comes amid ongoing regional tensions and strengthens defense cooperation between France and Greece.
