Ukraine MPs exempt own cash payments from scrutiny

On April 7, Ukraine's parliament passed an IMF-mandated tax bill that contained an unrelated amendment to the Law on MP Status. The amendment rewrites Article 32, stating that an MP "does not report and bears no legal responsibility" for a $4,555 monthly cash payment from the state. Only two members of parliament voted against the measure, which was passed as part of the larger financial legislation.
